When a Dynamic Background fails to generate in a Dynamic Video Campaign, Sendspark’s error handling controls what happens next. By default it uses your fallback data and continues generating the video. You can also choose to stop, show an error, and update the information before trying again. Configure both from the campaign’s three-dot menu in Step 1.

Key takeaways

  • Backgrounds can fail when the URL is inaccessible, the site blocks automated requests, API calls, or bot traffic, or security settings prevent Sendspark from retrieving the page.
  • Open error-handling settings from the ⋮ (three-dot menu) in Step 1 of your campaign.
  • Two options: generate the video using fallback data (the default), or do not generate, show an error, and let you update the information first.
  • Videos that used fallback content are easy to spot afterward by their orange status indicator and orange play button.

📖 Overview

When generating videos in a Dynamic Video Campaign, it’s possible that some videos using Dynamic Backgrounds may fail to generate. Common reasons include:
  • 🌐 The background URL is inaccessible.
  • 🔒 The website blocks automated requests, API calls, or bot traffic.
  • 🛡️ Security settings prevent Sendspark from retrieving the page content.
By default, Sendspark will use fallback data and continue generating the video.

⚙️ Configure Error Handling

1️⃣ Open the Campaign Options

In the first step of your Dynamic Video Campaign, click the ⋮ (three-dot menu). Arrows pointing to the three-dot menu and Error Handling option in the campaign editor

2️⃣ Open Error Handling

Select Error Handling from the dropdown menu.

3️⃣ Choose How Sendspark Should Handle Failures

You’ll see two options:

✅ Generate video using fallback data

If the Dynamic Background cannot be generated, Sendspark will use the fallback content configured in your campaign and continue generating the video.

🚫 Do not generate, show an error, and let me update information

If the Dynamic Background cannot be generated, the video will not be created. Instead, Sendspark will display an error so you can review and update the information before trying again. Error Handling modal with fallback data and do-not-generate radio options

🎨 Configure Your Fallback Content

You can configure the fallback content directly in Step 1 of your Dynamic Video Campaign. 🟠 How to Identify Fallback Videos

After videos are generated, any video that used fallback content will be easy to identify. Look for:
  • 🟠 An orange status indicator
  • ▶️ An orange play button
These indicators show that the video was generated using fallback content rather than the intended Dynamic Background. Arrow pointing to an orange play button marking a fallback video in the prospect list
